Notice to Members: Scam email directed to Instructor Members

A scam email aimed at PC Instructors For Hire list / Directors / Committee Members / with published emails on paddlecanada.com, have been contacted with variations of the same scam. The scammer emails, asks for your paddling course / trip rates, then sends you a document to work on and asks for your mailing address. They pay up front with a cheque that will bounce on you, and ask you to reimburse them for an overpayment before the cheque bounces.

There IS no work opportunity—they've approached many of us.

Updated Sea Kayak 2013 Program Manual (Version 14.01)

Updated 2013 Manual (Version 14.01 January 2013)

A new manual is now available. Please refer to your members area online, under Sea Kayak Program link, to download a latest copy. The following items have been updated in the Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking Program Manual:

Added: Bow rudder description to level-2 skills.
Added: Prior teaching experience is now a prerequisite for level-2 instructor students.

SUP Yoga

SUP Yoga

Last October, an individual with the Canadian Yoga Alliance contacted SUP PDC regarding working together on a SUP Yoga certification for existing yoga instructors. In the end, the PDC decided that Paddle Canada does not have the expertise in yoga to support such a program. However, we offered to help where possible. This new yoga program will utilize the new Paddle Canada Intro SUP Instructor program for the paddling and safety portions, along with the SUP-specific yoga components.

Reminder as of summer 2012, it is possible to register an insured and sanctioned SUP Yoga Clinic / Course as long as Yoga Instructors involved in program are certified with a nationally recognized association.

Lake Canoe Safety & Rescue Clinic : Reminder

Reminder About The Lake Canoe Safety and Rescue Clinic:

Launched in 2012, it allows Instructors to specifically run a sanctioned clinic in either a pool or waterfront area. Many instructors already offer winter pool sessions highlighting these skills; now Paddle Canada offers this as an official clinic which can be registered via your member area accounts.

New SUP Program Manual Version 3.0 Now Available

The SUP PDC has just released a new version (3.0 March 2013) of the SUP Program Manual. Login to your instructor member area to download a copy of manual now.

Here is a list of the changes to manual:

Version 3.0, March 2013

New: Added this manual change log to track changes between manual versions. New: Added the entry-level instructor certification (SUP-Intro.I), valid to teach SUP-Intro only.
New: Renamed SUP-FWI to SUP-AFWI, and modified the program appropriately to accommodate the new SUP-Intro.I program.
New: Revised the program chart to reflect the above revisions.
New: Increased minimum age for instructor certifications to 18, except the SUP-Intro.I, which remains at 16 years of age.
New: Added general information regarding First Aid certification considerations.
New: Changed the First Aid recommendations for Instructors to prerequisites.
Updated: Described minimum instructor course length in both hours and days for clarification.
Added additional safety skills to all instructor courses in the program.
Updated: Made corrections.
Updated: Grammatical and editorial changes to clarify and to improve readability.
