The program provides a foundation of knowledge and skill for safe and efficient tandem coastal canoeing in a variety of environments. Expanding on skills and knowledge gained in the Lake Tandem Program, it explores:
- navigation with charts,
- marine forecasting,
- tide & current interpretation,
- tidal currents,
- surf launches & landings.
Small bodies of water are suitable for the Intro level. Large lakes like Lake Winnipeg and the Great Lakes are suitable for Intro and Intermediate levels. The Advanced Coastal level is run in a tidal ocean environment.Age Requirements: There is no age restrictions for any Skill Courses - at the discretion of the Course Director please check with them. For all instructor courses there is a minimum age of 16 yrs of age.
Paddlers are also taught the Leave No Trace principles for active environmental awareness and protection in order to help ensure that we can all continue to enjoy Canada's many waterways and wilderness for years to come.
